Chicken afritada has always been our Filipino favourite because of its sweet and savoury notes. This classic tomato-based stew is easy to prepare with ingredients that are easily accessible in your pantry, while also packing a lot of rich flavour.

With reference to this recipe, simply boil all ingredients for 10 minutes after stir frying garlic and onions, transfer it into the Thermos® Shuttle Chef® for at least 1 to 2 hours and serve when ready to eat

2.  The Filipino Noodle

You can’t talk about a hearty Filipino meal without mentioning pancit. In fact, this traditional stir-fried noodle dish is a staple in big family gatherings, especially during birthdays because it’s believed to symbolise long life.

Pancit is also one of the easiest Filipino recipes to make with ingredients that are locally available. You can even put your personal spin on the classic pancit by adding your favourite vegetables or choosing your own protein.

Here’s the recipe, where you can replace the simmering process with vacuum-insulation cooking in the Thermos® Shuttle Chef® for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour. In the meantime, you can prepare the other ingredients or step out for a quick grocery trip.

3. The Comfort Soup

You can never go wrong with a classic cheesy ham and corn chowder that you can easily whip up. Get creative by using the vegetables that you love and cut them into interesting shapes for the kids, making them much more fun to eat. Here’s the full recipe.

You can’t have a Filipino family party without trying pork menudo. Cooked with pork, vegetables, garbanzo beans and raisins with a thick tomato-based sauce, menudo is perfect for big families because of its rich flavour and is also ideal for cooking in big batches.

Just combine all the ingredients and let it continue to simmer in the Thermos® Shuttle Chef® for at least 1 hour before you dig in to enjoy this scrumptious dish. Click here to check out the recipe.

7.  The Classic Fish

Completing this list is one of the easiest recipes to make in Filipino cuisine. Ginataang tulingan is made using “tulingan”, or bonito, one of the most common fish in the Philippines.

Using coconut cream and other ingredients like pork fat, ginger, bilimbi and chili peppers, you get to remove the gaminess of the fish while allowing the creaminess of the coconut milk to absorb into the meat by wrapping it in banana leaves.

Check out the full recipe here. Simply replace the 40-minute simmering process with at least 1.5 hours of vacuum-insulation cooking in the Thermos® Shuttle Chef®, so you need not have to keep watching the stove.
